Personal Statement
Being a student-athlete is important to me, yet this title is given to every high school and collegiate student who plays a sport. I put myself above and beyond through my own expectations in elite academic and athletic performance.
As a student who highly values academics, my goal is to play college baseball for a college that can guarantee a high level of education. Being productive in the classroom is just as important as being productive on the field, and I take that to heart as a student-athlete. I believe that I can certainly be a teammate whom coaches would trust to keep up in class and avoid trouble.
As a baseball player, I know that baseball is both a physical and mental game. There is much more to baseball than simply taking swings or playing catch: all the little nuances in every situation can make a big difference in the outcome of a game. Being strong is one thing, but being intelligent and strong is what will make you successful. I have worked on developing healthy and effective mechanics as a both pitcher and hitter by doing research on the physics of baseball and our anatomy. Thus, being a scholar on and off the field is something that I have used to become the best baseball player I can be.
Out of school and sports, I have volunteered and worked with kids and teenagers in different camps and programs through the YMCA and through my local Park and Recreation. Working with and for others is a great experience in that I can learn how to cooperate with others and that I can become a better person. Having three younger sisters has helped me become a role-model and I have always enjoyed helping and teaching others around me.
I can be a good candidate for your team because baseball is a mental sport that requires a good understanding of ourselves and what is around us, along with developing teamwork and cooperation. As a student-athlete, I hope that I can be successful on the field, but as a person, I can promise that I will certainly be a good teammate on and off the field.
