Personal Statement

It has been a dream of mine, ever since I was a young boy, to play baseball for as long as possible, and playing in college is the next step in that journey. I fell in love with the game watching baseball with my grandmother and when I was finally old enough to play, I was ecstatic. I love every second on the field, and my love for the game has not diminished one bit since I was four years old. I put in the work and strive to be the best player I can possibly be. Ever since middle school, I have been balancing baseball, music, and academics. Something that makes me different from most baseball players is my commitment to music. I am Principal Trumpet in the Worcester Youth Symphony Orchestra, a regional group in which one is granted a position by auditioning. I also play in my high school concert and jazz bands; I am first trumpet in my high school jazz band over juniors and seniors which is something I am very proud of. Playing first trumpet and being a catcher have both helped to develop and enhance my leadership skills. In both situations, I have to be confident and communicative with my peers and teammates. I also balance an academic caseload that is made up of AP, Honors and CP classes. These three commitments require me to balance my workouts, practices, studying and rehearsals. All this leads to a very full day, combined with my obligations as one of three Class Representatives voted into office by my peers to represent our class to Student Council, as well as having a seat on the Steering Committee, it does not allow for much free time during the week. Although this may seem limiting to some, it has allowed me to learn time management and how to become more efficient in many aspects of my life. The trifecta of baseball, music and strong academics make me a unique and strong candidate for any college baseball program.

  • 5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher who is developing very well, improved since the last time we saw him. Threw 74 mph from behind the dish, simple arm path. The path is short and the feet are improving during the transfer. Pop time of 2.09 at the event. The receiving is progressing nicely, soft and secures the catch are all trending the right way. Took ground balls in the infield as well, throwing 75 mph across the diamond. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 82 mph. Starts with an athletic stance, the hands work freely during the swing. The path is long, need to shorten it down, physical strength will help that process. Made hard line drive contact in the session. The skill set is good and trending the right way.

  • 5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher who continues to develop nicely. The receiving is improving and the throwing is progressing well. Shows the ability to stay behind the dish. The transfer and footwork can continue to improve as he matures. Ran a 4.66 down the line. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 77 mph. Hits out of an even base, uses a knee to knee timing mechanism on the bottom half as the ball approaches. The swing is long to the ball, uses a 1-handed finish after contact. Showed top spin during batting practice. Had 3 hits in the game, as he handles live pitching very well. Solid prospect at his age.

  • 8/20/17 to 8/20/17
  • 5-foot-8, 157 pounds, lean and athletic while just beginning to develop physically. Athleticism is there to succeed as a catcher or second baseman. Broad shoulders with slight slope provide plenty of room to add strength to the frame. Conner has an above average bat that will keep improving. During gameplay, he singled twice and flew out to deep center field. He has loose hands that work well up at the shoulders. The bat path is mostly level-up, tailored to deliver hard line drives. His feet get set slightly wider than shoulder width apart, and he uses a small leg kick. He is short to the ball with strong contact skills. Defensively, he has a quick first step with promising overall footwork as a backstop. He has a fluid transfer into throws out of a high ¾ slot. Overall, Conner is a definite follow heading into his sophomore high school season, with room for improvement to an already above average package as a player.
