Personal Statement
I have a very close family who has supported me from the beginning. My parents and grandparents have attended countless games and are willing to travel wherever they could to watch me play. My one grandpa, who was an avid photographer, and took thousands on photos of me playing, passed away unexpectedly about a year ago. This was really difficult on me, not having him there to cheer me on, but I know he’s still watching me and would be so excited that I still am passionate about the game.
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in baseball. My grandpa was a huge Detroit Tiger fan and I started going to games with him and my family and running the bases as soon as I could walk. I played t-ball at the age of five and have been playing ever since.
I’ve learned lots about myself through playing baseball. I’ve learned that everything takes time, and that you have to put in the work in order to get better. Being on a baseball team has given me the drive to want to get better, not only in baseball but in school as well. I also know and understand to win a game it takes a team not just one person.
In college, I hope to either study engineering or architecture. I have a passion for math and science, and as a sophomore I have been taking engineering courses at my high school. My school has an engineering program that I plan on continuing through my senior year.
I’m a very flexible and dependable person with a strong work ethic. I can take the lead when asked but am also a team player and get along with everyone. I’m not afraid to work hard and always want to improve. This past year, as a sophomore playing varsity, I was awarded the “Practice Player of the Year” by my teammates and coaches. I am looking forward to becoming a better baseball player and have a commitment to working hard year-round, on and off the field.
