Hi, my name is Erik Halvorson and I am currently in my Junior year at Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan. I stand 6'3 and weigh in at 200 pounds. My primary position is catcher but I can play all over. This past year I was a starter on the Varsity team at Seaholm where I had the benefit of becoming an every day starter and experiencing my first full season of Varsity baseball. Last season while I was on JV I also had the privilege of being called up to Varsity for the spring trip to Cincinnati, tournaments, and playoffs. For my time on Varsity, I caught and played the role of DH.
This past season (2014), I was an every day starter on Varsity, splitting my time as a DH and also behind the plate. Our record was below 500, but this does does not accurately represent our season. We were a team that was competitive in almost all of our games but lost many close ones. Our season ended with a loss to West Bloomfield High School in the District Championship game. I ended the season with a bit of a slump at the plate, but luckily I was able to have a solid playoff, but this slump did drop my average.
Besides baseball, I also play basketball where I played a backup role on the Varsity team for this past season, and I am looking forward to re-assuming my role as starting center for my senior season, just as I had done as an underclassmen. Outside of athletics, I am very involved in band (both concert and marching). I am honored to have the oppurtunity to have been selected by my peers to lead our 200+ person marching band as one of our three drum majors for my senior year. I am also active in volunteering, most recently volunteering for two weeks at Safety Town, a program that teaches preschool age children common safety rules. Other than that, I have actively participated in volunteer work through The First Methodist Church in Birmingham, Michigan, A program where we prepare and serve food to the less fortunate in Detroit as well as providing gently used clothing. Last year, I also participated in the Freshman mentoring program at my high school. In this program I was a captain of my mentor team and had 3-4 incoming freshman assigned to me for the 2013-2014 school year. I will continue to participate in this program as a senior. Going hand in hand with volunteering, I am a member of the National Honors Society at my high school, and I continue to participate in volunteering opportunities with that organization.
Although all of these extracurricular activities are very rewarding, my studies always come first. For my first two years in high school, I have accumulated a 3.95 GPA. This past year (Junior year), I took AP Language and Composition and Honors Spanish 4 along with my regular classes.
