Hello, my name is Andrew Seavey. I am 11th grader at Portland High School in Portland Michigan. I am a good candidate for your team because I work very hard both at baseball and academics. In 8th grade I realized that I was a good pitcher. I was our teams ace and I had a 1.10 ERA and 35 strikeouts. Two summers ago after that season I worked a lot on pitching. I was outside every couple of days throwing. The next season I did well and posted a 2.50 ERA in 11 innings. This past summer though I worked on my pitching every few days working on location, movement, and accuracy. During my JV season my pitching improved a lot. I became a strikeout pitcher and that isnt because of my fastball, but instead my off speed. I pitched well against some of the larger schools and more skilled ones in our area and it showed that I could handle the tough teams. I realize my bat may not be the best, but I am in the cage working on that frequently. I also take ground ball and fly balls quite often in my own time. When I struggle to do something I make the adjustments needed to fix them. Recently I’ve worked on my fastball and developing a solid changeup. In doing so I’ve got a lot more movement and I change my speeds more often. I have also worked on mechanics and learning to breathe on the mound.
Another thing I work hard at is my grades. I study hard and do all my homework no matter how long it takes. Even though I struggle in some classes I get a pretty good grade in them. I think I'm also a good candidate because I show up to optional workouts. This past fall we had 5 optional workouts and I showed up to all of them. Those are some of the reasons I think I am a good candidate for your team.
