Personal Statement
It has always been my goal to play baseball at the college level. I have loved playing baseball for as long as I can remember. In addition to baseball, I also play football and basketball. Because my high school is small, athletes often have to play multiple roles on sports teams. This has provided me with many opportunities to grow as an athlete, especially in the areas of versatility and leadership. My various roles in these sports include: center/left fielder, shortstop, pitcher, catcher, quarterback, running back, safety and point guard. Many of these roles have allowed me to grow and develop as a leader. My junior year, I was one of the captains in football and baseball. In my senior year, I will be the captain in all three sports. I have received post season honors in all three sports, including being named to the All-Region team in baseball.
Speed and base running are significant strengths for me. During my junior year varsity season, I was 40 / 40 for stolen bases. My speed allows me to cover a lot of ground in the outfield. I had no errors in my primary position (centerfield). I was also the leading hitter for my team.
I believe athletic participation is an excellent tool for character development. Sport has a unique way of helping us learn to overcome adversity, to be gracious in both victory and defeat, and to learn to work with people of diverse personality types. Because of my passion for sport, I have volunteered at basketball and baseball camps for kids, as a little league assistant coach, and as an announcer at rocket football games.
I have learned that the only things I can always control in sports and in life, are attitude and effort. No matter how bad the circumstances, I can always hustle and give my best effort; I can always be a good teammate; and I can always respond well to coaching. All the athletic ability in the world can only get you so far, if you aren’t willing to put in the work and have a good attitude. I look forward to college level baseball and the additional growth and development opportunities that will be available to me.
