It all started when I showed up at a tee-ball tryout with just a bat and glove. Who knew I would later have the privilege of traveling the country, competing at a high level to improve my skills and enjoy the sport I've grown to love. In addition to playing the game, baseball, coaches, and past teammates have made life-changing impacts in multiple other aspects of my life. They have taught me to be a leader on and off the field, how to interact with many different personality types in a positive way, encouraged and shown me how to battle back from defeat; all characteristics that I have found especially important in everyday life outside of baseball. In addition, my club team’s motto, The Blizzard Big 5, (acceptance of responsibility, loyalty, humility, synergism, & kaizin) are traits I have used in all aspects of life.
Exceptional has become the only acceptable option for me. In the classroom, I push myself everyday to achieve my best, and never to take the easy route. Along with keeping a good attitude, I try to influence my peers in whatever way I can for the better, even if it means spending extra time and going out of my way. I enjoy learning. I understand this is necessary to better myself for the future and whatever comes next.
Due to my parents’ careers, I’ve had to move to several states throughout my life. With moving, came new schools, new teams, and new friends. Baseball has allowed me to connect easily with kids from all over the country from various races, cultures and economic backgrounds. Through skills I learned in sports, changing schools became less intimidating and I adapted in new communities easily. Making friends and fitting in became effortless.
Although winning isn’t everything, I will do everything in my power to reach that goal with every chance given. In times of loss, I reflect back and learn for the next opportunity. Whether that means hitting off a tee the next day to fix my swing, or staying home to study for a subject I need help with instead of hanging out with friends. No matter the situation, I will make the best out of it and adapt to whatever comes my way next.
