Personal Statement
My name is Jack Meert and I am a 6’3” 175 lb junior at Parkway West Highschool in Chesterfield, Missouri. I was born into a family of athletes and began playing sports at four years old. I am a three sport athlete at West, playing soccer, basketball and baseball, but my passion is baseball. Every chance I get I am playing baseball with my highschool or club teams. If I am not playing I am in the gym doing skills, drills, weight lifting and speed and agility training. I am enamored with every aspect of the game and am constantly looking for ways to improve and hone my skills. I have been told I am coachable, listening and acting on the advice and feedback from my coaches. I like to think of myself as a good teammate on and off the field encouraging my team through positive remarks and interactions. Not only do I give 100% on the field I give 100% in the classroom as well. I am a scholar athlete earning a 3.72 GPA. I like to continue to grow and learn in all areas of my life. I have overcome several obstacles to achieve my goals through hard work and perseverance, including learning to cope with Dyslexia. Hard work, dedication, time management and communication have helped me to balance my world of academics and baseball. I have been told I am a utility player who easily catches on to the intricacies of many positions, however, my primary position is Centerfield. I have the speed and tracking ability to cover a wide area to catch just about any ball out there while still maintaining an awareness of the game. I throw and bat right handed. I have been a starter in the outfield for both my highschool and club teams for the past two years. My dream would be to continue playing baseball on a college baseball team while furthering my education in engineering, in the hopes of working in the field of Aerospace Engineering one day. When I am not studying or playing sports I enjoy traveling, watching movies, working at my families Christmas tree farm and building and creating using robotics and 3D printing.
