Personal Statement
I started playing organized sports at the age of 4; begging to play every sport my parents would sign me up for. Baseball, soccer, basketball and football were a big part of life in my early years. I was raised with Christian values and am fortunate to have great role models that not only help me develop as a student athlete (A+ program), but also grow as a person. Via opportunities through my family and club team, I have supported community service events such as Christmas parties for Veterans, walking in the Veteran’s Day Parade as a safety walker for floats, working fundraisers for the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, collecting toys for Shriners Hospital, and working with disabled kids through Challenger Baseball .
One athletic accomplishment was earning the starting quarterback role for our freshman football team and coming from behind to lead our team to a conference championship. That summer, before my sophomore year in high school, I sustained a back injury in football camp which required 6 weeks of therapy and affected my ability to pitch during the summer and fall baseball sessions. Determined to finish as our team’s top pitcher, I focused on regaining my strength, flexibility, as well as pitch command, and successfully finished as the top starter on my Club team and carried it through to my High School team. As a result of this injury, I realized my true passion was pitching and have given up all other sports to focus on baseball.
