Personal Statement
I feel like hard work and perfect effort should be a given in college baseball, so I want to touch up on both subjects, along with some other characteristics that have shaped my life. I couldn’t possible write down every life lesson I have received from the game of baseball, but I can explain how I put myself in a position to receive these life lessons and capitalize upon them, allowing me to grow so much during my time playing the game of baseball and living the adversities of life.
I have had integrity and heart ever since I began my journey with the game of baseball. From the time I was seen as the least skilled player on the team, to the time I was seen as a very skillful player, I have always valued integrity and purpose. This has allowed me to grow extraordinarily and shield myself from the label of talent.
My team was in fact very talented, but it also happened to be the source of their own disappointment. Many of our fans and our own player had their minds made up that this would be what would set us apart from other skilled high school baseball teams. I was often made fun of for how much I cared, how much effort I gave to the game, and my knowledge of it. My integrity, heart, and purpose carried me through the struggles. I am a firm believer that I progressed more than others due to how well I responded to the adversities. I was always preparing myself in any way possible, big or small. And when things would go wrong, I would pay attention, seeing it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
During my high school career so far, we have lost two district championships and one district game before the championship. This is nothing to brag about, but I did strengthen my values because of these losses. As a team however, we did not handle adversity in a sense that it was an opportunity to learn and grow. We only said we would have better luck next year. It is hard for me to watch, but I can only say it has strengthened my passion for baseball even more. It has provided me with purpose. Today’s society has fallen into so many bad habits that I have seen in baseball, during an important point in teens lives, and I just want to someday be able to serve as an example of not only how to play baseball, but how to live life with purpose and impact. I know with your help I can become what I dream to. I’m calling out to a coach who will give me their best. I have decided that in life and baseball, if you give me one solid opportunity, I will capitalize on it. I’m calling out to that guy who is willing to give me that opportunity, so I can give back to the world. If you are a coach willing to do that for me, I WILL ABSOLUTELY give you my perfect effort and show you my fullest potential. Thank you.
