Personal Statement
My freshman year was a really exciting year for me when baseball started. I got to start in a few varsity games, but one of the most exciting things was when my high school team came back from a 1 to 3 game in the bottom of the seventh, went into extra innings, and won the district championship. It all came to an abrupt end when we lost the game to get us into the state tournament by one run in the tenth inning. Although we did lose I feel like I have grown as a player and a person. I began to focus more on becoming the best I could be and work my way into the starting rotation for my sophomore year.
My sophomore year wasn't all what I wanted it to be. My cousin, who I was really close to, had died at the age of 18. After his death I fell in a slump, my grades went down and my effort was terrible, but I kept fighting to keep up with all my school work and eventually got my grades up and actually started working harder in baseball. I would stay at the fields after practice to throw extra and hit more; baseball was the only thing that kept my mind off my cousin. I ended up being the starter in the pitching rotation for my high school team and we made it to the second round of districts. This season taught me that pitching is a mental game and that I have to always think about the next pitch not the past. My junior goals are to have a 3. 7 GPA, get committed to a college to play baseball, and my college goal is to major in agricultural engineering or mechanical engineering.
