Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Levi Sotomayor. I am currently a Senior attending Galena High School in Reno, Nevada with a weighted GPA of 4.25. I was born in Fairfield, California. I am currently 6’1” and 165 pounds. I am a left handed hitter and thrower. My positions are left handed pitcher, first baseman, and outfield. I currently play for the Reno Muckdogs 18u Fall club team. To explain in my own words, I am a two sport  athlete that loves the game of baseball and have been playing since the age of 10. I respect the game and all the coaches that have helped me along the way. Throughout my years of baseball, I’ve had the opportunity to work with the Minnesota Twins Triple-A  minor league pitching coach Mike McCarthy, former major league player Steve Lerud, and the former major league pitcher for the Yankees Darrell Rasner. I also work out with Christian Chamberlain during the off season who is a minor league pitcher in the Royals organization and am a member of the Optimum Athletes program in Sacramento, CA. I have progressed tremendously with them, but there is still more to learn. When I’m not playing baseball or not in school, I enjoy playing basketball and going to the gym. I also like to watch a good movie or sports game. School and baseball take up most of my time, but I try to get in the gym six times a week. If I can’t get to the gym I am still focusing on my nutrition. Over the winter months I work on mobility, pitching mechanics, and strength. During all the other seasons I’m usually playing and still working on the things I do in the winter. I also always try to spend time with family. My parents and two sisters are great people and very supportive of my baseball career and life in general. As for college, I would like to major in business and eventually attend law school to open up a sports agency if baseball doesn’t work out. As far as my accomplishments I have played a year of JV baseball and I played up on my club team the Reno Muckdogs for the past two years on the 18u team. I was also selected as a team captain by my teammates for both years of basketball I have played in high school, although we did not play this past season, my junior year, I was selected to my Varsity High School basketball team. So, I have some experience playing with guys older than me which will be similar to college. In conclusion, I am a great teammate, a great person, and I will outwork anyone. I strive to be a better student, person, and baseball player every day. On the field I communicate loudly and clearly, just as I do off the field. I am very coachable and always open to more advice and guidance.
