Hello,
My name is Peyton St. John and I would like to start this off by introducing myself and my family. I am presently a sophomore and part of the class of 2022 at Trinity High School in Manchester, New Hampshire. Trinity is a small private school with a great community and staff and I have found it to certainly be the best place for me during my high school years. At school I really enjoy being a member of the sports teams. I play Golf, Basketball, and Baseball and have been able to share my leadership skills with being chosen to be a captain on all three teams. This year I have also been asked by my school’s trainer to be an ambassador for the Safe Sports Network Program. In addition to sports, I was happy to be accepted as a Student Ambassador for my school. Student Ambassadors are chosen to promote our school by giving tours and having kids shadow us during their school visits and we also assist in other school events throughout the year. I also like that at Trinity I can participate in our Chorus and Drama clubs which I have fun doing outside of sports.
Outside of school during the summers, and some hours after school and weekends, I can be found working at a Golf course near my home cleaning carts and clearing the driving range. Spiritually I am a Catholic and spend some time involved in church between our school religious activities and in my parish where I am an altar server. Through my church I also volunteer to do yard clean up in the Spring and Fall for families in need of help. In my free time I like to spend time with my buddies whether we are playing NBA 2K on the Xbox or hanging out at each others houses and even going out to lunch or dinner. One of the best vacations I ever had is when I went golfing with my Dad in Southern California. Lastly, a fun fact to learn about me is when I was a young kid I had an obsession with Star Wars and had a collection of light sabers I played with. Later during my grammar school years I took up Fencing lessons and competed in competitions. It was a pretty fun and interesting sport and I learned how to stay within myself and not get distracted by negative situations while competing.
My immediate family is made up of my Mom, Dad and older Sister. My mom is a physical therapist, enjoys all outdoor activities and was a college athlete who played basketball at St. Michaels College. My Dad is a computer software salesman, loves playing golf in his free time and played Golf at Central Connecticut State University, though a medical problem kept him from competing all 4 years. My sister currently is a freshman at George Washington University studying Political Science. She grew up playing soccer and basketball through her high school years and is a great singer and actor in Choir and Drama clubs. I have been thankful that my family has also been extremely helpful in my activities whether it was through coaching or being my biggest fans.
Now I would like to share how my interest in baseball came about. I grew up initially playing soccer and basketball. When I was eight years old I told my Dad I wanted to try playing baseball instead of soccer and fell in love with it. Later on I added playing golf competitively because I enjoyed learning to play the game with my family. Overall baseball is different than any other sport for me. The real turning point in my baseball career was when in my third little league year my team won the championship! That year was when I realized that baseball is what I wanted to do. Every time I step on the field I get a different feeling than any other sport. I get a feeling of joy that nothing can match. I feel like I want to be the best on the diamond every time I am out there and I want to out work everyone to prove that.
Presently in baseball I play first base, third base and pitch. I believe I am extremely skilled at making sure to keep the ball in front of me and in the infield, as well as having a strong arm across the diamond. In regards to hitting, I am pretty consistent with batting well and in Club ball this past summer I had the least amount of strikeouts on my team. My biggest weakness is rushing myself. Sometimes I rush myself and that causes me to make errors, but in the past few years I’ve had a goal to slow myself down and just make the play that I have to. I believe I help my team in many ways other than with my skills. I am a pretty relaxed person who likes to keep things fun yet competitive. I like to help support my teammates to feel their best and feel confident while on the field so that we can all be successful as a team. Respect is something I believe in having for my coaches and my teammates at all times; I think this also helps keep a team close and focused. When on the diamond I believe in hustling for your coach because that is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to show respect for your coach and team through showing your best effort. Additionally, I feel that playing golf and basketball have helped me with baseball in different ways. In basketball, the speed of the game helps me stay conditioned and helps to improve my reaction time. In Golf I have learned how to believe in my abilities and how to make adjustments in my game on my own while out on the course competing.
Next, I would like to address how I am in the classroom. Academically during my freshman year I did struggle some. I ended the year with a 2.9 GPA and found I was pretty disappointed in myself. I struggled some in Math and Science the most and I feel the way to change that is through more hard work and dedication. I realize I need to make sure I’m truly working to the best of my abilities and no less. I do succeed more in English, Literature, Language, and History classes as I feel I am much more interested in those subjects. I do realize however that no matter what I am learning I still need to buckle down and do my work whether I like the subject or not. I have a goal this year of bringing my GPA up toward 3.3 and to be on my school’s honor roll all four quarters of the year. I will accomplish this by doubling up on studying and getting extra help from my teachers.
Lastly, one thing I have definitely realized is that I want to study Sports Management after high school and I am really excited to go to college to create an interesting career! I promise you that I will be just as excited to be in a college classroom as I will to be on a college diamond!
