My name is Garrett Stoken and I am a 5’ 5”, 130 lb. high school baseball player. I have been blessed to be able to play for the four years I have been at Belvidere High School after playing throughout middle and elementary school. My passion for the game of baseball is so strong, that in the winters I have been going to training facilities for batting and pitching practice in order to improve my skills and stay in shape during the off-season. Being a lefty, I mainly played first base when I first started playing through my freshman year of high school. Once I reached my sophomore year, I wanted to become a more versatile player and began learning the skills needed to play in the outfield. Since then, right field has been my main position. In addition, I became interested in pitching early in high school and with lots of practice and coaching, I have been able to add pitching to the positions I am able to play. I am also a very smart base runner who can steal bases and be quick on the base paths.
I have always wanted to pursue a career in business/marketing in order to hopefully be a part of a baseball business. I will be just as excited to be in a college classroom as I would be on a college diamond. Academically, I am a very capable and focused student who always puts school before any other activity that may come my way. I study hard and plan my schedule around big tests and projects. If I ever need extra help in a class, I always seek out assistance with the material in order to get my grades to be where I want them.
Along with my academics, I have been involved in high school organizations such as Student Government and Environmental Club. I am never afraid to push myself to be the best person I can be on and off the diamond.
Outside of school and baseball, I am also a very active and busy person. I have been working since my freshman year during the summers at Land of Make Believe in Hope, NJ and am now employed at Dunkin’ Donuts in Portland, PA. As an employee, I always try to go above and beyond in order to satisfy the customers’ needs. In addition, I have been in Boy Scouts since first grade and recently earned my Eagle Scout award, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. Scouting has really helped me grow as a person and helped to make me who I am today. I have learned many life skills through scouting which have helped me in real life situations, along with completing service projects for my community. Joining Boy Scouts is one of the best decisions I have ever made because it taught me valuable skills that equip me for everyday situations and survival. Along with Boy Scouts, I have been an active member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in West Easton, PA since I was around six years old. I have been an altar server for the past 12 years and I attend church every week.
I am looking to further my education and baseball career at the college level in order to fulfill my lifelong dream of being a student athlete and someday have a career in the corporate offices of a baseball team. None of this would have been possible without my parents. I would like to thank them for always pushing me to do my best and be the best person that I can possibly be -- in academics, sports and all of my activities. I would also like to thank every coach that I have had throughout my baseball career, especially Coach Aaron Feldman and Coach Jordon Schreffler of Belvidere High School, and I look forward to working with college coaches as I search for the right college for me!
