Personal Statement
Since the age of 5, my life has revolved around sports. Playing baseball, football, and basketball in my town's recreational leagues, I learned the basics of sports and character. I think losing has had the biggest impact on my athletic career. Growing up, I was on teams where winning was rare. I believe that this has helped me because I know what it takes to turn a losing team around. I've always been a natural leader, captain of many teams. My freshman year, our baseball team was 5-15. In the offseason, I worked hard with my teammates and we made a championship run in my sophomore year. Being a catcher, I feel that leadership is the most important aspect of the game. When I play, I run the field. My coaches feel comfortable with me calling games and I feel that this is due to my knowledge for the game.
Coming into my freshman year, I had to earn my spot on the varsity team. I knew I would have to work hard to earn the spot over a senior and two sophomores. During the preseason I made the varsity practice squad and was named the starting catcher after my outstanding preseason. This memory is definitely my favorite as it reminds me of how I can work to achieve my goals. It also reminds me that when it seems like all odds are against me, if I stay true to my ethic, I can come out on top.
