Personal Statement
My name is Connor Edward Owens, and I'm named after my Dad's grandfather, Edward Sparrow. He served our country during the attack on Pearl Harbor and other conflicts in WWII. My Dad served in the Navy during the Persian Gulf War. The military is a strong influence in our family and inspires me to hold myself accountable in school and on the field.
I started playing at age 5. My district team started playing tournaments at age 6. We won 3 out of 5 district titles and qualified for 5 straight Ripken State Tournaments while making it to 3 championship games. Our 12U year, I started in the championship game at States. We lost the game, but that loss pushed me to new heights, and I went from a Saturday pitcher to a regular Sunday pitcher. At age 13, I was one of two kids that made the 8th grade team as a 7th grader. At age 14, I was selected for Team NJ for PBR and played in the Junior Future Games. My team went undefeated and I started and won Game 2.
Baseball has been a great sport to play because of the life lessons it has taught me. I love the team aspect of the game. People are counting on me, and everyone on the team has to do their part for us to win. I support and encourage my teammates on and off the field, because I want our team to be successful. Baseball is a big commitment, and it forces me to manage my time. After school, I finish all of my homework and study for any tests. This helps me prepare for the next day, and I can shift my focus to baseball training, practice, or games.
My goals in high school are to continue maintaining a high GPA as well as qualifying for the National Honor Society. After high school, I want to attend a college that challenges me and also gives me the opportunity to play competitive baseball. If you select me, I will give you and the team my best in the classroom, in the weight room, at practice, and on the field.
