Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Nick Ciuffreda and I am a rising senior at Lawrence HS. Ever since I was about five years old I have been interested and invested in baseball. At age five I was too young to play tee-ball, but would go to all my friend's games and help out with their team because I wanted to be a part of something. Finally, I was able to play the next year and I haven't stopped playing since. Playing in Lawrence and for Lawrence teams has helped me to grow and learn as a person. Historically, Lawrence teams have not won very much - but we want to be competitive and reach the next level. Last year was the first time we have advanced out of our district and to the state tournament in over fifteen years. All the years of losing and coming so close finally seemed to pay off because we earned the chance to play at the state level and not just the district. By playing a lot of baseball, I have learned that being a leader is more important than I thought because everyone else follows what I do. I have to always be up in the field and the dugout whether I made four errors or struck out on three pitches because the rest of the team is looking to me. I have also learned to work harder to be successful in everything I can control and not let the things I can't control effect me. All I can do is continue to work my hardest, and encourage and inspire my teammates to do the same.
Now that I have completed my junior year of high school, I have become more interested and invested in wanting to study business in college. Preferably I would like to study sports marketing and management due to my extreme interest and fascination with the sports industry. I would not mind marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, or regular business marketing but want to hopefully work in the field of sports one day. I can't imagine going to college and not continuing to play the game I love. As a leader in the classroom and a leader on the field, I know I can work to excel and play at the collegiate level.
