Personal Statement
I am a quiet guy but being quiet is not a weakness but builds strength. I use this to my benefit. Being quiet allows me to take in what is being said to me or around me. This information helps me to improve as a student and an athlete. My goal is to always grow and improve any way that I can athletically and personally. Listening allows me to find various ways to overcome any obstacles that are blocking my educational and athletic successes. I continuously want to improve, so I make sure to pay close attention to educators, coaches, my personal trainers, as well as advice from everyone in my supportive circle. I am open to all advice given to me to help me reach my greatest potential. On and off the field I strive to always be my best.
Baseball has always been the sport for me. My experiences playing baseball all these years leading up to high school, have helped me learn how to be a team player, support my team, learn the game, and overcome challenges. As a freshman in HS, I was chosen to be a starter at short stop for the JV team. This is when my first physical obstacle needed to be overcome. In the first game of my career, I threw a ball from short to first to get a player out and heard a pop in my elbow. The player was out, but so was my elbow. Turns out I broke my elbow over my growth plate. I was now going to be out the rest of the season. Despite injury, I went to most practices, and every single home game to support my teammates. This showed the team that I was there for them even though I was not playing. I didn’t want this injury to weaken me, so it made me stronger. I went to PT 3x a week, did exercises at home every single day, and made sure to do everything I could to strengthen myself. This injury taught me to fight through and to come back better than ever. My sophomore year, I made it back and got chosen for Varsity. To this day, I still do my exercises before every game.
In college, I want to pursue a major that involves education and sports and working with kids, even though I am undecided exactly what path I want to follow. I do know I want a great education and to be part of a college baseball team. I want to excel, make an impact on the team, show my abilities, leadership skills, work-ethic, and my overall commitment. I know I would be a great asset.
