Personal Statement
Ever since I could remember, I've had a love and a passion for the game of baseball. Before I could even walk I would always have a baseball in my hand. Now that I am 17 and looking to move on to the next level, the love for the game is still a driving force in my life. I have played since I was 4, and not only do I have the skills necessary to move to the next level, but I have learned and continue to learn the value of the teamwork, commitment, hard work and dedication that it takes to be successful in this sport.
Recently in May of 2018, my varsity high school team was crowned the state champions of the 5-AAAAA class. This was one of the craziest things I have ever experienced in my life. Being a part of this team taught me what it takes to be on a championship caliber team. As the starting third baseman, I was forced to be a leader on the team and it made me realize the skills and qualities it takes to be a leader on and off the field. Those leadership skills that I have learned will continue to be carried over to other aspects of my life. This experience is definitely something I will never forget. It has only solidified my dream of playing baseball at the collegiate level.
Although it took me some time during my freshman year to adjust to high school, which was reflected in my grades, I have been on an upward path academically ever since. This is reflected in the recent spring quarter of my junior year where I achieved a 3.55 GPA and the Honor Roll. I am dedicated to my schoolwork and increasing my GPA during my senior year at Farmington High School. Not only am I dedicated to baseball and school, but to God and my family as well. I try my best to be honest, hard-working and diligent which I know will be beneficial in college. Neither one of my parents have a college degree and it will be a dream come true to go to college, play baseball, and graduate with a degree in physical therapy, which I chose because I have watched my Dad struggle with a football injury for years. By becoming a physical therapist, I would be able to help people like him.
The valuable lessons I have learned on and off the field make me a good candidate for your team. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you and seeing where I may fit in your baseball program.
Sincerely,
Marcus Maldonado
