Although I know I am not the first Student-Athlete from the Bronx to ever go through the recruiting process, I know that my story is different. Like many, I grew up wanting to be the golden child of the family, the one that to one day finally go off to college and earn a degree, sounds pretty cliche I know but I loved school at young age, this was mainly due to my kind and loving teachers but aside from that Math and Science. I was introduced to Baseball as a way to keep myself busy over the summer since I had become too old to enroll to my previous summer day camp. I was seven years old. I come from a ethiceithicbackground of Dominicans, both my parents were born and raised in the Dominican Republic and had finally met each other in New York. My father wanted me to adopt and learn of the Dominican culture in terms of baseball, as young as I was I went along with my summer plans and enjoyed it until one summer at the age of nine I was appointed to play against live pitching, the idea was not scary to me at first but that first At-Bat really turned my world upside down from here on out. I was hit by a pitch after the first pitch, right on my bicep and I could not believe what just had happened, of course after that I sobbed a little and had gotten over it, however besides the physical I had endured I also started to grow a fear of the baseball itself, and from there on it I was afraid to even take hacks at the as they were thrown, I had became afraid and with that being said my confidence was greatly depicted, a recipe for disasters. That season went awful for me as I stroke out most at-bats during that season and in doing so build up a really bad reputation for myself as parents would ridicule me for being the lamest ball player on the team, this had only brought my confidence lower than what it already was. I had quit that season, quit for good, or so I thought I was. Within the next couple of years I had decided to practice, practice enough to overcome my fears and become better, at the age of 12 I decide to give it a try once more and had faced the same resentment and trash talk from some parents, but when the moment came to shut them up, I did. I did gracefully, with a smile on my face I ran around those bases and never said anything afterwords after. I was humbled and I continue to stay that way, its one of my best traits and its one that maintains the positivity in my kind and helpful nature. The Journey continued both on the field and in the classroom. In high school I made a commitment to myself, I told myself that will show up to school as much as I could, and believe it our not I only missed one day of School freshmen year and two-three during may sophomore year and in total so far in my entire high school career I only missed 10 days of school. I had been on the Honor Roll at least 3 times a year during my high school career so far, I have taken my academics very seriously, I know most student athletes may not achieve this where I come from in the bronx, I make sure that I'm well rounded in terms of both academics and athletics. My goals now is to play baseball on a college level, more preferably at the DII level where I feel would be the best fit for me, where I can impact a team the most, impact my teammates with my positive and humble attitude, always figuring out ways and methods I can help out a teammate both academically and athletically, helping others has always rewarded me with a heart warming feeling, one that is worth more than materialistic items. I want to be that teammate for my parents and one day my family. They deserve it all.
