Personal Statement

My name is Nicholas Font and I have been playing baseball since I was 3 years old. On the baseball field and in the classroom I work hard to excel. Baseball is a sport that I love and will keep on loving forever. Baseball to me is what makes me unique, once I step on the diamond everything going on around me goes away and its just me and the game. My goal in baseball is to make it as far as I could possibly go, making it to the pro level. When I step in the classroom and on the diamond I am a leader, hard worker and most definitely a team player. What makes me so unique over anyone else is that I am willing to do anything to get better and learn from others.

Behind the plate, Nicholas stays low with his setup and has a solid base. He moves well laterally with active footwork. He receives pitches well with a soft glove. Nicholas has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a low 3/4 slot. Offensively, Nicholas has a tall, open setup with smooth rhythm. Overall, Nicholas is a projectable prospect who has the intangibles to make him an impactful catcher at the next level.

  • Northeast Indoor-NJ Feb 25, 2017 PG Grade: 8 Nicholas Font is a 2018 C/IF, OF with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Broad Channel, NY who attends HS for Construction, Architecture, and Engineering. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and a long, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Ran a 5.35 40-yard dash. Primary catcher, low set behind the plate, popped a 2.02 but will lower with additional lower half involved, gets on top of throws well and shows accuracy to second base with a quick arm action. Works low in the infield, fields the ball out front and glove plays to either side, clean transfer, can make accurate throws from multiple arm slots. Righthanded hitter, begins with an open and wide base, small leg lift trigger for timing, high hand set in the box. Moves into contact well and gets closed prior to contact, incorporates lower half and able to generate nice bat speed through the zone. Compact swing path and finds the barrel consistently, works the middle of the field, projects with addtional physical strength. Good student.
