Personal Statement

Hello, I'm Quin Student. I am a 6 foot 3 inch rising senior that currently attends Wakefield High School in Raleigh N.C. and play showcase ball for Dirtbags 17U Prospects. I want to start this statement off by saying that I love baseball, all of its intricacies and history have left me wanting only to lace up my spikes, grab my bat, and play. I'm ready to embrace all the challenges that coaches, and by extension, the game layout before me. If that means I have to sit and wait my turn, I am ready to do so. I can’t wait for the countless hours spent at the field, and in the cage, working to become the best baseball player and the person I can be. This doesn't mean I'm going to school to play baseball. I understand that baseball isn't forever and that I have to set myself up to succeed when the game I love is no longer a realistic option. This will require an education that will prepare me for the real world outside of baseball. I am whole-heartedly dedicated to my education. This means that my athletic eligibility will never be a question.

I want to play for a school that isn’t just run of the mill. I want to play for a school that has a history of creating productive members of society. A school that will prepare me to be the best person I can be. I care about the issues that affect our community and want to be able to positively influence changes that will deal with these problems in any way possible. The school I attend will be the beginning of my story, and I want that beginning to be a good one. If this means I would have to move far away from home, I can live with that. In life, you have to sacrifice to reach your goals. Saying this, school has to be a place that I can make a connection with people I see on a daily basis, get to know my professors, and be a part of school life.

The best thing I can offer to a college program is a person who never gives up. I’m not the type of person who gets complacent with success; I enjoy the process that you have to go through to reach that success. Basically I just love the grind: the practice, the gym, the lessons, the tee work, the stretching, the running. This has been a staple of my personality since my earliest days and has guided me to where I am today. I’ve been playing 2 sports at high level since I was 10 years old. I’ve missed so many opportunities to have the same fun that my piers have because instead of going home, I was off to the next practice, game, or workout, or lesson and that’s something I wouldn’t trade the world for. I love learning new skills and improving on the ones I have. I run the 60 in the low 7-second range, and my fastest exit velocity is 87 mph. While those stats aren’t anything to hate on, there’s still room for improvement. I have the ability to make these improvements because with practice comes improvement, and I’m not about to stop practicing.
