Personal Statement

I have been playing baseball  and other sports since I was 3 years old.  My mom says I have always been her "bull in the china hutch".  Although I have natural athleticism, I have worked tirelessly on becoming the best athlete I can be by practicing and pushing myself both on and off the field and court.  I attended the Sandford Power program in the summer of 2021 to elevate my normal training.  There is no quit in me. I live and breathe sports and I love to compete.  I am a 5-sport a year athlete.  I am constantly competing, and that is when I am the happiest.  I am coachable.  I value input from others as a way of improving upon myself.  I am a team player.  I have received the "Best Teammate" award the last 2 years in football and I have held captain positions in each sport I have played in.  A brotherhood is formed when a team comes together with common goals and the motivation to reach those goals.  The friendships I have made not only with my teammates, but with so many other athletes across the state, is a true blessing.

With being a multi-sport student, time management is key.  I have found a way to excel in academics, all while living my best life touching a bat, ball or club.  I know that ultimately my brain is what is going to pay the bills someday, but my heart loves to compete.  When I am on the court or field I think of nothing other than what I am doing right then.

I know when to lead, but I can also follow.  I know in life you don't get something for nothing and I am willing to sacrifice to get to where I want to be.  I am disciplined with my studies, I fully commit to my sport, and I have clear expectations of how I want my life to look.  With all that said, I can bring the light in times where there needs to be positivity.  I know how to motivate those I stand beside.  I have always been looked at as a leader, and as I have grown older, I know the responsibility that entails.  Sometimes it is a pat on a teammates back, sometimes its a short conversation, and sometimes its nothing but being present and sitting next to them.  I take responsibility for the team I am on.  I want to make them better, because they make me better.

Sports, to me, is more than a game that is played.  More than a record at the end of the season.  To play sports is a gift.  The adrenaline, the comradery, and simply the ability to play is a true gift.  I have been taught to find what I am a good at and what makes me happy and to put all I have into it.  I am lucky.  At only 17 I have already found one of my life's greatest joys, and for me that is competing.
