My name is Ryan Musgrove and I am one of the few students at Perrysburg High School who is a 3 sport varsity athlete and have qualified for competition at the district and state level. Playing multiple sports has allowed me to be a skilled learner of the game making me more flexible for coaches who need, someone, too easily transition between positions to help improve the team. Being a multi-sport athlete has also helped me improve my overall body coordination and muscle control which has kept me playing in multiple starting positions on the baseball field.
At 5’11’, I weigh 195 lbs. The greatest asset I have is my overall grit and determination, which was evidenced this past fall when after the second football game of the year, I was diagnosed with Compartment Syndrome. After 3 surgeries and 30% of my right calf muscle removed, I was told my budding sports career was probably over. That was not an option for me. I pushed through the pain, kept attending practices, learned to walk and run again, and blew everyone’s mind, including the surgeons, by earning my starting position back to represent Perrysburg High School in November’s playoff game where I had 8 tackles. I am downright competitive and I hate to lose.
In baseball, I have been a starter for Perrysburg JV both my Freshman and Sophomore year playing first base, pitcher and outfield. Last year, I moved up to Varsity for playoffs where we took second in the district. My greatest strength is my bat as I am a consistent hitter with an exit velocity of 96 miles per hour and an average of .418 at the JV level the last two seasons. On the mound, I have a natural cut fastball and I consistently throw strikes. My secondary pitches include a changeup, cutter and a 12-6 curveball. Last season, I pitched 31 innings with 36 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.8.
My hard work and dedication also extend to the classroom where I participate in College Credit Plus classes, hold a leadership position on our schools Link Crew, NHS, and have a 3.7 GPA. My goal is to be a part of a baseball program where individuals can grow as a team, develop relationships, and compete.
