Personal Statement
My name is Mason McCurdy. I am a junior at Poland High School in Poland, Ohio. Baseball has been my passion for a great deal of my life. I not only love the game but I respect the game. I started playing baseball when I was 5 years old and have been playing ever since.
I play on our HS varsity baseball team. As a tenth grader, I played mainly second base and some outfield. Our team won the Ohio Division II sectional championship. I also play Class B baseball in Youngstown, Ohio. (I have been playing since I was 14 years old.) I play second base and left field on an 18U team. Last summer we qualified and competed in the Palomino Zone where we made it to the semi-finals. I also had the opportunity to play with the 16U team which qualified for the NABF regional series where we made it to the championship game. These experiences have given me the opportunity to play at a higher level with strong competition and learn more about myself as a player. Even though second base is my primary position I can also play other positions such as: shortstop; 3rd base; and outfield. My ability to be a utility player has given me ample opportunities to always be in the game.
I pride myself on being a student of the game and an extremely hard worker on and off the field. I value being a good team player and working together to make everyone stronger. I train for baseball year round by attending local clinics and camps to enhance my hitting and fielding, work with a personal trainer for agility and speed, lift regularly to strengthen my core and increase muscle mass, and hit daily in my own personal batting cage. I believe it's important to work hard during the off season. My commitment to training will help not only my personal play but keep me physically and mentally ready for whatever comes my way. I have learned that hard work and dedication are important in baseball but also in life, therefore, I put my best forward in all that I do.
I want to go to a school that has a positive environment with solid academics and a strong baseball program where I can learn from various coaching perspectives to improve my game and help me grow as an individual. My goal in college is continue to play the game I love so much and graduate with a degree in a field I enjoy so I can have a productive and happy life.
