Personal Statement
Justin Schiets, Class of 2019, Toledo Central Catholic Fighting Irish, Brownlee Lookouts, LHP, 1B, OF, LHB……..
A very physically built prospect at 6-foot-1, 235-pounds. On the bump the southpaw starts with uptempo delivery that slows down a bit at balanced point. Works through an over the top slot with developing arm speed. Fastball will work downhill with slight arm side action at times, sitting 71-75 mph. Breaking ball has a 1/7 look to it with tight action at 66-68 mph. Consistently located the pitch in the zone. Changeup is a well above average offering, having a fastball look out of the hand before showing late run, dive. A lefty bat that has a physical look to him. Keeps hands quiet during his leg kick load/controlled stride. Path is mostly level with definite barrel whip in there. Creates gap pop with a smooth swing. Looks comfortable in the box with feel for finding the barrel. Solid performance in BP. In the outfield he plays fast too and confident through the baseball. Transitions quickly through fielding into his throws. Impressed with his accuracy to home plate. Also worked out at first base where he shows the frame for the spot. Moves athletically off the bag covering more ground than most.
Dan Gill, Toledo Central Catholic Director of Athletics 2016
Ability: "As the Director of Athletics at Central Catholic High School, I have been fortunate to work with Justin for the last two years. In all of my dealings with him, he has shown to be a young man of great character, intelligence and integrity. He continues to exemplify the leadership qualities and work ethic that every athletic director hopes for from his student-athletes under their guidance. Justin has all the necessary tools to be successful and will take the initiative to see that he achieves his goals. This, combined with his determination and desire to excel that is second to none, separates him from his counterparts. "
Personality: "As fine of an athlete as Justin is, he defines all the characteristics of a team leader. He consistently displays a positive attitude in the classroom and within all his exchanges with our faculty and staff. The same work ethic that has made him such a fine contributor to our football and baseball programs, has made him an even stronger student. Justin is polite, humble and a true pleasure to work with in every capacity. He is active in many of our student organizations and is respected by his classmates, teammates and coaches alike."
Craig Meinzer, Head Baseball Coach, St. John's Jesuit HS 2018
Ability: "Justin is an excellent baseball and football player and has made himself stronger and more athletic with his work ethics. Good speed for as big as he is and handles the bat well. Runs the base just as good."
Personality: "Just strives to be the best and put the time and effort into whatever sport he plays. He is a likable player and is not afraid to engage with a coach about anything. He will be a good fit and asset for any program and institution he ends up at."
