Playing Varsity baseball as an underclass man is a goal I had set for myself in 6th grade. Achieving that goal has not only motivated me to get better, but motivated me to get to the next level. I feel that I grew the most as a player my sophomore year when I took a starting position on varsity even though it wasn’t my primary position. I learned to overcome the inititial disappointment of not playing where I wanted, and found a new love for the outfield. Being the utility player I am today, I feel I have more than enough tools and talent to achieve my new goal and play at the next level.
When I was 11, 12 & 13, my club teams were playing 12, 13 & 14 year old teams. Always playing against older competition helped me improve as a player. From age 10 until Freshman year in high school, I usually played corner infield positions. As a 14 year old, my team needed a catcher and while not my favorite position, I did an OK job behind the plate. When I started a game pitching, I always finished the game in the field. As a Freshman, I played JV and found myself at 1st base quite often, so I gained a high skill level at that position. The 2018 season, my sophomore year, I started on varsity. Coach asked me to play in the outfield. I overcame my self doubt and put the team first and me second. I’m looking for a program that has the same morals. A program that will do whatever it takes to win a ballgame and I will play every game with that mentality. I believe I am talented enough and have the right character for your program and definitely bring the leadership skills to the table. I assure you, I will do what it takes to bring success to you and your team.
