Personal Statement

My name is Riley Patterson, an academic student for the class of 2027, and starting catcher for the 3Up 3Down baseball program out of Reading, Pennsylvania.  My personal goal is to play baseball at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in finance.

Throughout my years of playing baseball I have played every position, but my greatest skill is behind the plate as a catcher.  I’m highly regarded for my strong accurate arm and agile blocking skills.  As a hitter, I have an excellent eye for the strike zone, consistently hit for average, and I’m considered a gap to gap hitter.  I possess leadership on and off the field and garner the respect of my coaches and teammates.  My 3Up 3Down team worked together to win three tournaments during the 2024 calendar year.

I am motivated to play baseball because I see it as a path to grow as an individual while playing a game I love.  Baseball has taught me to overcome adversity and understand the value of setting goals.  Lessons are learned from winning, losing, working to improve my body after injuries, and riding out the highs and lows of a baseball season.  What I learn on the baseball field transfers to my personal and academic life.

I am currently taking four Honors level courses and am maintaining a high GPA.  I work hard to maintain a balance between academics, athletics, and my social life.  I would like to use my strengths in math for a career in finance.  My long range plan is to combine my academic goals with my athletic passion at a college that provides the highest level of competition.  I believe I am creating positive habits and a work ethic that will lead me towards this goal.  I know I would be a great addition to any college baseball program.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
