My name is Stephen Hlavinka. I am currently a senior at Saucon Valley HS in PA. I have been playing baseball since 5 years of age and developed a passion for the sport. I love the sport for its competitive nature as well as having the ability to work individually on my personal goals and as a team to accomplish team goals. Through my years of playing baseball, I have played every position but my primary position is right hand pitcher and secondary positions are second base and outfield.
While I have always had support from my parents, through the years playing little league, I do not feel as if I had a fair chance to advance in baseball. It was through those years I found perseverance pays off. When I was a freshman, the high school varsity baseball coach saw my potential. To gear up for the next season I was able to work with a pitching coach. With the positive feedback from both the varsity baseball coach and pitching coach, it gave me confidence to pursue baseball in college.
My coaches say I am very coachable. I appreciate advice and respond well to positive feedback and constructive criticism but do not respond well to yelling and screaming. My primary role on our Varsity baseball team as a junior, was relief pitcher. However, the coach knew I could be called upon to help out at any time. I helped lead the team to league and district play-offs in 2019.
During the off season I work on strength and conditioning to make myself stronger and more competitive and during the school year work hard to keep GPA at an acceptable level.
I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was in 5th grade which made learning difficult as I was not able to focus and learn as a normal 5th grader. I have recently been able to adapt to ADHD with different ways of learning and staying focused by working harder to figure out the best way for me to succeed.
My immediate goal is to find the college that best fits me as a person and my academic and athletic interest. My academic goal is to obtain a Bachelors degree in aviation with minor in sports management. My athletic goal to play four years of baseball and be an active contributor to the success of the team.
I look forward to my last year of baseball to be a successful season and to prepare me to compete at the collegiate level.
Respectfully
Stephen Hlavinka
