Personal Statement

My name is Nathan Mayes and my main goal and aspiration is to play college baseball. I have played baseball since I’ve been able to fit my hand in a glove. I’ve been a part of several different teams such as little league, Harbor creek Huskies traveling team, junior and senior legion and a part of our North East high school ball club. I am known as a very versatile baseball player and have played almost every position. My two main positions were outfield and pitcher.  My coaches have called me the heart and soul of the team before because of my passion for the game and my intensity of cheering my fellow team mates on. On the Harbor Creek traveling team we traveled to lots of locations in Ohio, but one time we made a trip down to the Cal Ripken tournament down in Maryland. We won 5 /10 tournaments and took second in 3/10 tournaments. During my sophomore year in high school ball, I got mono and was unfortunate and could not finish the season. At the time of getting ill I was 4th in our region for pitching. I can only dream about where I would have ended up by the end of the season. Other than baseball I play basketball during the winter and occasionally during the summer months. I play for my local high school at the point guard positon. We as a team have participated in Christmas tournaments and tournaments south of Pittsburgh. I have also contributed to a few Gus Macker 3 on 3 tournaments. I also do solo basketball workouts outside of school with my shooting coach.

Outside of my sports I live on a family fruit farm where I am the 7th generation. I have worked on the family farm and driven a tractor since the age of 8. For my free time you can find me fishing and hunting and or riding four wheelers. My mother says I cannot usually capture enough out of a single day.  I am an outgoing person who can never sit still. I am always looking for stuff to do or am thinking about what I’m going to do next. I believe that it is better to have many different types of friends instead of one or two. I am not afraid to travel and meeting new people has given me many opportunities I would not otherwise had. I have three siblings including two sisters and one brother. I am the oldest of my siblings, so the younger ones are always looking up to me. Having a larger family means you have to work harder and carry your own weight. Having grown up on a farm I am not afraid of hard work and I understand what it means to put in longer hours than the normal individual. I believe in the saying you will reap what you sow.

If there is someone to thank for supporting who I am is both of my parents. They will always support the extra hours, miles on the car, workouts and private coaching. My father built my brother and me a pitching mound in our basement and outside.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
