Personal Statement
At present my intent is to go to the most competitive, academically enriching school possible, ideally, with some form of athletic scholarship. My work ethic is exceptional, and I am of good moral character, Academically, I always strive for more and I never back away from a challenge on my quest to acquire knowledge. I love baseball. I love the sport more than any other! I do enjoy basketball a great deal and I used to play goalie in soccer.
My parents have instilled in me respect for others and demonstrated the merit of hard work; whether that work would be in the classroom, field, or career. Both my mom and dad are very resourceful people that have endured many setbacks financially and otherwise. Through no fault of their own they ended up losing a business and a home that they spent decades working to own. After that they picked up the pieces and both returned to school. I think it was living with them (and my adult brother with autism) and watching them struggle with bills and learning from them has given me the drive to succeed. It has been their determination and grit that has gotten the family back on track. I want to be the best person I can be. I have in me a hunger to be successful through my attitude and work. This shows on the field, in the dugout, in the classroom and anywhere I can share my enthusiasm.Success to me is a long road that can be achieved with the combination of work, honesty, compassion, and on occasion, luck. My dad showed me his passion and love for the game, practicing with me for two to three hours a day after being benched for a season when I was young. He played until he couldn’t - and then started again on the men’s team in Haddonfield. (They won their championship in their division in the SJMSBL hard ball) Recently, he had to take a job that has him traveling 90% of the time. Any moment of free time he gets from work he spends with me, helping me hone my craft. Fortunately, I am old enough to practice on my own, or get reps in long toss and do cage-work with friends in the winter season. I would like to play baseball for as long as I can. I have the grit and grind to get to the top and compete at the highest level.
My mother is and has been a major source of inspiration. Seeing her persevere and navigate what she has over the course of ten years has taught me that there is nothing holding me back from pursuing my dreams. She has raised a family, supported my baseball dream and of course challenged herself in difficult classes in college(All honors courses and president of her Honors Affinity Society ). She worked a full-time job as a Chef's assistant at a cooking school, washing dishes and going to college full-time. Then she applied to Rutgers University in New Brunswick, Following a high honors bachelors degree (Double Major, triple minor)there, she is now at Johns Hopkins for her masters in Writing. She continues to work hard so she return to her career in art, as not just a curator, but a historian.
