Personal Statement
My name is Leroy Evangelista. I am about 6' 2'' and weigh 165 lbs. I have been playing baseball my entire life. I’m attending SCS (Scotland Campus Sports), which is a Post-Grad School in Pennsylvania. I have always taken as much pride in my coursework as my athletic achievements. I always set the bar high for my academics and on the field goals.
I have always taken as much pride in my coursework as my athletic achievements. Maintaining a high GPA no matter the level of classes is very important to me. I do whatever necessary to reach my full potential as a student athlete. Doing so allows me to stay eligible on the field, set a positive example as a team leader and be there for my teammates when they need me most.
Since my growth spurt few years’ back, a few coaches to included SCS coaching staff have been advising me that my future could be on the mound as well as up the middle. Initially, I had my uncertainties. I couldn't always muscle up the speed to blow hitters away with my fastball, so I’ve concentrated on location and hitting my spots. I have taken my coaches philosophy and adapted it to my routine in the weight room and made major adjustments to my pitching mechanics, thus putting on 20 LBS and about 10 MPH on the mound. Since attending SCS, I been told that I have “more in that tank” and my velocity to reach in the upper 90’s if I continue work on it.
When not on the mound, I play my strongest positions, which are up the middle, the hot corner and the entire outfield. I didn’t at first, but now embrace my ability and athleticism and notice that it have giving me true understanding of the game.
I take great pride in being a team leader, and understanding that to be a great leader you first have to be a good follower “lead the way”. Given the opportunity to learn and play at a higher level in your institution well be an amazing experience.
