Luis Rivera '20 Recruiting Profile

This fall marked the start of my Senior Year and when it is all said and done, it will also mark the end of a journey towards playing College Baseball. As a kid, I started school a year earlier than most meaning that as an athlete I would compete against kids a bit older than me. That exposure allowed me to develop a strong sense of competitiveness and an increased maturity level both on and off the field.

In Junior High I decided to put the work in on the field and in the classroom to better position me to play College Baseball. Through hard work and training, the past couple of summers have allowed me to perfect my two-seem and four-seam fastballs as well as develop multiple secondary pitches such as a curveball I can throw for strikes and one designed for swing and misses. I also recently learned a new change up that plays along well with my fastball. In 44 2/3 innings since early March I have amassed 69K's vs 11BB while allowing only 3 earned runs. From a mental toughness standpoint my exposure to high stress pitching appearances and success in both Caribbean Zone Tournaments, as well as multiple World Series starts and outings have provided me with a strong confidence level and hunger to continue growing in this sport.

Being a student athlete since the age of 5, I have always had a balance between sports and academics. My hard work in the classroom and community is likely to provide academic scholarships to help off set school costs and hopefully increase my possibility to play baseball for the right school. The experience earned at the college level will allow me to continue to mature as an athlete and as a person going forward.
