My AAU coach asked me once what I did best. I said, "I catch fly balls." When I was eight, most kids wanted to play shortstop. I wanted to catch fly balls in center field. I can say with confidence that I’m one of the best center fielders in Rhode Island. When I was about 14, I realized that my hitting was falling behind my defense, so I began to work with Marcus Perry at Inside the Park in Fall River, MA. By my junior year at Tiverton High School, I was batting leadoff for the varsity team, hitting .378 with an OBP of .518. I'm a smart contact hitter with a little pop, so I think batting first or second is my natural spot in the lineup. Tiverton is a small school and players need to know a lot of positions. In my junior year, I played mostly center field, but I was also the third starter at pitcher, and I played 2nd and 3rd base. At the end of the season, I was invited to play in the RIIL D2 all star game. I also play cornerback and kicker on the varsity football team.
I don't know what I want to do yet with the rest of my life. I have had bad coaches and good coaches, and both kinds taught me something about coaching. I might want to be a high school or college coach some day. I plan to study physical education, kinesiology, or physical therapy in college.
