Personal Statement

Hi! My name is Wyatt Hobgood.  Defensively I am the starting catcher for my high school team, East Robertson; however, I have played right field and can play third base.  Offensively, I am a left-handed batter.  This season, East Robertson won the TSSAA Division 1A State Championship, allowing one run throughout the entirety of the tournament.  While winning the championship was amazing, my favorite memory is when a 7 year old player asked me to sign a baseball and getting to encourage him and his friends to keep practicing.

My goal is to play catcher at the collegiate level, and I believe I have the grit to be a successful student athlete.  I have a pop time of 2.0 but have worked hard and flirted with 1.9 throughout this season.  I also have a GPA of 3.54 while being active in my community, church, and school.

Since I was three years old, I have known that I want to play baseball at the collegiate level.   Growing up on my family's farm has taught me how to be a very dedicated and hard worker, academically and athletically.  You may find someone who is a better athlete than me, but they will never outwork me, on or off the field!

Behind the plate, Wyatt sits in an athletic stance and receives with a firm glove. He has a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate to the 2B bag. He is quick moving to block and centers dirt balls in the middle of his body. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a soft stride. He gets into his load on time and gets good extension through the ball with fast bat speed, leading to strong line drives to all fields. Overall, Wyatt is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field."

  • 06/25/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Nashville, TN Wyatt is a solid catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in 2.22 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, continues to shine through an athletic, crouched setup. He is aggressive as he attacks balls through a level swing path. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 2 years to further develop, Wyatt has potential with time and room to progress his game. link: http://members.baseballfactory.com/player/wyatt/hobgood/5a0227822391420aa27d9db0ebfbad27
