Personal Statement
I believe picking the right college is one of the most important decisions I will ever have to make and will set the stage for adulthood. This decision, however, starts with my background. I attend Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1867, the school prides itself on “building boys into men” through its traditional curriculum. The motto “Gentleman, Scholar, Athlete” reminds the students and community alike on the goals of the institution. Like many of my classmates, I attempt to fit into those words in that order. I am well-rounded and hope to continue this trend in college. I believe my college choice should be a continuation of the values that I hold close to me. Although it is only three words, “Gentleman, Scholar, Athlete” perfectly defines my three goals in colleges. I am looking for a highly selective academic school where I can also play baseball on a high level. While I am proud of my rigorous course load and Chinese proficiency, the thing that makes me the most proud is the ability to work hard, especially while being coached. I take direction very well both in the classroom and on the field. Upon further introspection, I never do these things to further my own agenda, but to propel my classmates and teammates. As a pitcher, these ideals are part of the fabric of my job description. I pitch for strikes and let my teammates support me.
