My name is Tyler Gilbert. I live in Crowley, Texas and will graduate in 2026. I am a home school sophomores and I play for the Mansfield Knights, a competitive home school team. I have been playing baseball since I was four years old.
I love baseball for the competitiveness and team atmosphere. I am a true utility player, however my preferred position is pitcher, I love the “game on the line” situations where I need to shut it down and that is where I excel. My goal is to be a two-way player in college and beyond.
I have played basketball and football. I played football my 7th grade year at Godley Middle School. I love sports, but my passion is baseball and it has always been my favorite – both to play and watch.
I just completed the 2023
summer ball season with Cover All Bases out of Arlington, Texas.
My passion for baseball extends to the extra work I put in, both in private lessons and several skills camps. I have attended several baseball camps at Dallas Baptist University; however, I’ve also attended camps at Texas Christian and with the clubs I’ve been with. I took a catching clinic with Jonathan Lucroy of the California Angels and that is where my passion for catching came from. I have been taking private catching, middle infield, first base and hitting lessons from Skyler Ewing (formerly with the Giants and Brewers MiLB and the Cleburne Railroaders). I have taken pitching lessons since I was 10. My current pitching coach is Brendan Bell of the Cleburne Railroaders.
As a utility player, my favorite positions are Pitch middle infield, but I also play 3B, 1B and outfield- wherever the coach needs me I will play. Pitching is my absolute favorite. I have five pitches – Fastball, Change Up, Cutter, Curveball and Sinker. I have also been working on a knuckle ball. My best pitches are my Fastball and Sinker. This year I made the decision after discussions with my coaches to go to a PO and I pitch both Varsity and JV, depending on the need. My favor order in the rotation is closer/saver and I thrive under that stress. I do, however, sometimes start and can succeed in that order in the rotation.
I am leaning towards a business degree and am interested in the financial sector.
My strongest desire is to play baseball in college. I prefer a smaller college – rural or rural feeling. My favorite campus I’ve been to so far is Dallas Baptist University. I would like to play with a smaller Christian college but I am open to other opportunities - including JUCO.- anywhere in the country. I prefer the middle of the country- especially mountain states and the Midwest.
I look forward to being a student athlete. I love to learn and experience new things.
Outside of baseball, I really enjoy spending time with my friends, traveling, doing charity work with my church and hanging with my dogs. I have traveled all over the country and to London, Albania and Istanbul. In 2022 I went on a mission trip with my church to Albania. We took school supplies to small mountain village schools and food to families. My friend and I took baseball equipment to them and taught them to play baseball. I look forward to more mission trips in the future.
