Personal Statement

To Whom it May Concern,

My name Johan Campos this is the onset of my biography. I’m the middle son of three siblings. I was born and raised as bilingual in El Paso, Texas. My family is formed by; my two brothers, my mom, and my father. My older brother is currently attending NMSU; my youngest brother passed away a few years ago, and my parents divorced after this event. Since then my mother became our only support in everything we do.

I am currently enrolled at Jefferson High School as a Senior the following is a brief or who I’m and where I want to be. During my sophomore I meet a person that saw more on me than a regular student. She was math my teacher, Ms. Layumas, she moved me to the advanced placement for Algebra II. It was a big challenge since the move was a couple of weeks into the semester though I was able to catch up with no problem. Math is being my weakness through my school life but thanks to her I saw that with a good attitude you can overcome your weakness. This move motivates me and start thinking on my future. Before this high school was my limit, now I now my limits go beyond the basic education. After this I started to believe on myself and what I was capable off with no doubts. I left the old life I was living and started to concentrate on my future. I started to dream higher and stronger.

Furthermore, I understand that college would be an intelligent decision that will lead me to achieve my professional goal as well as the only option to a prodigious future. I do not want to stay as part of the statistics on my community that leaves school and settle with an ok job. I want to become a significant and good leader for future kids at my community. For this reason, I continue doing my research for Universities that major in Psychologic along with my other interests; baseball, and sign language. I’m positive that I can combine these and do something good for my community.

The persons that influenced me to go into college were my brother and my mother. The fact of losing a son be a survivor of family violence, go through a divorce, losing a home did not stop my mother. Those terrible events gave my mom the strength to go back to persuade not only her bachelors but her master’s in accountancy. She is a model to follow if she did it with so many barriers on her way; what excuse do I have? My second role model is my brother, he is being that father I didn’t have. He is being by my side always trying to protect me and help me through the hard times. The day I saw him graduate from an Early College High School when he was an average grade student; if he was able to achieve why not me? His influence, attitude, and support turned my life into the right path. Saw him been ready for college made me realize that I was right on time to get ready, give them and myself a moment of happiness.

I had participated in different extra-curriculum programs; in and outside of school. I was in Impromptu Speaking, STEAM Magnet Program, Border Patrol Explorers, Youth Bible Classes member. I enjoy the any activity that involves running, but my favorite of all is baseball. I am a baseball player since the age of three mostly as recreational to stay out of trouble but, at the end this sport tough me discipline and leadership. My goal is to continue playing at collage level.  In additional to these different programs. I play acoustic guitar, learning American Sign Language, and enjoy unraveling Rubik’s Cubes as hobbies on my own.

On top of the programs mentioned above I am currently enrolled in Upward Bound program. I‘m looking forward to any program that can support my future; for this reason, I strongly believe that Schreiner University will help in so many ways to achieve my future. I have a great passion for baseball as well as sign language. I truly believe in myself and I know a great future is ahead of me only if I continue educating myself every moment. I will take advantage of any great opportunity and will augment my skills. I am determined to take any challenges or opportunities to better myself. I will be grateful if the opportunity is given to enroll on this collage and no doubt I will satisfy the academic role.

Respectfully,

Johan Campos
