Personal Statement
My name is John Michael Ramirez. I am currently Class of 2022 attending Louis D. Brandeis High School in San Antonio, Texas. My primary position is RHP and my secondary is Catcher.
I fell in love with the game of baseball at the early age of 3. Over the years, I have built a network of friends, I call brothers, from as far as the Dominican Republic and as close as down the street. So many memories and moments have shaped who I am today as a person and ball player. The one person, I credit the most is my Dad. He was a high school baseball coach till I was 10 years old and unsatisfied with my baseball performance, he stopped coaching other kids and we began our journey of working together teaching me every facet of the game.
I consider myself a utility player as I have learned to play all positions. However, my competitive edge is that because of my years in catching, I have studied numerous batters and learned how to approach an at bat for various types of hitters. On the flip side, I leveraged that knowledge when selecting my pitches while pitching and can anticipate the pitches while hitting.
Being a Pitcher/Catcher, my health and well being are my top priority. I follow a self instructed work out daily and workout at an athletic training facility several times a week with a professional trainer focusing on baseball strength and conditioning, agility and endurance.
Based on my experiences with Professional Trainers, I would like to study Sports Science in college. I am fascinated with how the body functions under various scenarios resulting in optimized performance. My end goal, is to one day own and operate my own baseball training facility.
I strive to be a Leader in the classroom, on the field and in my community. With that, in school, I continue to excel in all core classes and Business courses. On the field, I have received numerous accolades from All District as a Freshman in High School to being named Perfect Game Underclass All American. Finally, in the community, I an active member of the San Antonio chapter of SASO (Scholars and Athletes Serving Others) since 8th grade. This forum has allowed my Mom and I to volunteer and give back to our community thru various events each year. This has allowed she and I to deepen our relationship as I did with my Dad during our baseball workouts.
