Personal Statement
Dear Prospective Coach,
My name is Nicolas Peña, and I have been around the game of baseball my whole life. Growing up in a baseball family with supportive parents and three older siblings who loved sports as well, I was blessed with instruction and examples to look to at an early age. These experiences allow me to say with confidence that my time with this game has truly shaped me, teaching me how to deal with both failure and success as well as allowing me to witness my shortcomings and strengthen qualities such as patience and work-ethic.
While I have grown up with baseball, I believe my most formative experiences with the game have come during my time in high school at Frassati Catholic. My freshman year, I decided to come to a school in only its fourth year of existence, with a baseball program that had just begun the year before. At a young age, I along with others were thrust into roles of leadership on the team, and while my three seasons at Frassati have not always ended in satisfying win-loss records, our failures have allowed us to grow, and I believe that we have been able to truly come together as a team and get better every day. One day I hope I can look upon a successful Frassati baseball program and know that I helped to build it. If you allow me to play for your program, you can trust that my goal will always be to get better every single day, in all aspects of my life. I have always prided myself on my work-ethic and coachability, and will continue to work hard this summer and beyond in order to get better on and off the field in order to help your program.
