Personal Statement
They say that one of the hardest things to do in all of sports is to hit a Major League fastball. Well, I like to do hard things. I like to excel at things that challenge me and I absolutely love to compete – especially in the face of adversity. I tried out for my Junior High basketball team my 7th, 8th and 9th grade years and was cut every year. However, my Sophomore year I made the team, started every Sophomore and JV game, and earned a Varsity letter, usually by entering the game to provide a defensive stop on the opposing team’s hottest player. My Junior year I started every JV game as a captain and every Varsity game but one (the first game of the year). My Senior year is just beginning in a tough realigned region, I have been named a team captain, and I cannot wait to compete.
This coming Spring will bring my 4th and final year playing Varsity baseball and I am proud of the program my teammates and I have built. Prior to my Freshman year, no one in the program could recall the last time we won a state playoff game. Yet my Sophomore year we made a deep State Tournament playoff run as one of the lowest seeds in the tournament. My Junior year we were once again burdened with a low seed heading into the tournament and had to play an undefeated team on their home field in our opening game. Nevertheless, after 11 innings of extremely competitive baseball, there we were, wildly celebrating our victory on the mound after the last out.
I want to be part of a program that competes and is filled with competitors; a program that accepts challenges and rises to meet and then exceed expectations. My discipline and dedication to field thousands of ground balls in the back yard and spend hundreds of hours in the batting cage hitting countless baseballs off the tee and out of the pitching machine (the same discipline and dedication that has served me so well academically) have provided me skills to compete. I want to be part of a college baseball program where I am the right fit for the program and the program is the right fit for me.
