Personal Statement
My name is Davis Hamby and I am currently a junior (Class of 2025). I am enrolled at Acellus Academy and play for PDG Baseball Academy in Fredericksburg, VA. I started playing baseball at 4 years old and have played every season since. I am a 6' 3" lefty pitcher who bats right. I am also able to play outfield and first base. In addition to training to increase my velocity, I consistently strive to improve my command and control. I have confidence on the mound to get out of high pressure situations. For example, when the bases are loaded, I maintain my confidence that I will be able to get out of the situation. I have also had success as a relief pitcher entering the field with players on base and I have been able to shut down the inning efficiently. What I love about baseball is it teaches you how to work together as a team and how to handle tough situations. I also love that if you do not give up on the game, there is always a chance to come back when you are down in the count or in the score.
In addition to playing baseball, I enjoy many other sports. I was a member of our local recreational league wrestling club until the organization was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In middle school, I was also on the school's cross country, basketball and volleyball teams. As a high school freshman, I lettered in Varsity wrestling.
My goal after high school is to find attend a college where I can play baseball and get a good education. While, I am currently undecided on a college major, I am interested in pursuing a degree in communication, sports management or sports medicine. I enjoy working with younger children and helping them grow and develop on the field. Baseball is an important part of my life and I want to play it for as many years as possible but I know one day it will end for me. Because I understand that the next game is not guaranteed, I work really hard in school to achieve the best grades I can. I am also a member of DECA and FFA where I work to improve my leadership, public speaking and project management skills. I am excited to continue my high school journey and look forward to the high school experience.
