Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Andrew Shiflett. On the baseball field, my teammates call me Shifty.
I started playing baseball at the age of six years old. I was invited to try out for our community travel team. Ever since then I've been playing on both recreational and travel teams. As I grew older, I began playing on the middle school team as a sixth-grader. I soon was invited to play on our district's American Legion Jr. Post team in the eighth grade. My travel ball organization is RBA South, I’ve played on many teams within this organization, specifically 11u-16u(current). This is currently my third year playing on the RBA Southies Showcase team. Although my 2020 spring season was eliminated due to the world pandemic Covid-19 I made my Powhatan Junior Varsity High School team as the starting shortstop.
I'm dedicated to the sport in that I continue playing year-round with continued practice in the off-season. I thrive to learn many skills from my coaches and teammates to benefit my mechanics.
To finalize, I would like to describe myself as outgoing, driven, and diligent. These personal traits have been my strengths not only in sports but also with my education goals. If I were asked, "Where do I see myself in three years?" I would say "Doing what I love to do and that would be playing college baseball."
