Personal Statement
My name is Austin Batten. I am currently a Senior at William Monroe High School in Ruckersville weighing 180 lbs and run a 7.0 60 yard dash. I have been a starter for Varsity since my freshman year in baseball, basketball and golf. While I very much enjoy being a three sport athlete my heart belongs to baseball where I play shortstop or second base and my dream is to pursue it to the next level. I received 1st team All District at second base as a freshman, and 1st team All District, All Regional and 2nd team All State at second base my sophomore year and 1st team All District and 2nd team All Regional at shortstop my Junior Year. I won the Team Defensive Player of the Year Award my freshman and sophomore year. My batting average is over .582 and my OBP is 639. Our William Monroe Dragons baseball team won the State Championship in 2012 with a total record of 49-3 since starting my freshman year.
I have also played Albemarle American Legion baseball for the past several summers. We won the American Legion State Tournament in August 2013 and I was named MVP for that tournament. I have also played 8 years of competitive USSSA Major/AAA baseball with the Greene Machine baseball team (we hold a record of 247-75-2).
I not only work hard on the field, the court and the course, but I also am diligent in the classroom. I currently hold a 3.2 GPA which requires a lot of dedication and focus with being a three sport athlete and having to travel one to two hours per game in our District.
My goal is to play baseball at the next level while furthering my education. I have always used baseball as my motivator to stay focused so I could reach this goal. I have many attributes to offer my team and coach; from my knowledge of the game to my willingness to be a team player, to never underestimating the small things you need to do to win a game, i.e. taking that sacrifice bunt, taking a walk, strategic base running or coming up with the game winning hit in a crunch. I love the game and always give it my all.
I would enjoy speaking with you further.
