Personal Statement
My name is Ethan Choi and I am a junior at Freedom High School in Chantilly, VA. I am 5’11” and 165 pounds. I have played baseball since I was 7 years old. I had always dreamed at playing at the next level, whether it was at the travel, high school, or college level. I am always working on improving my skills, whether it is with my team, a specialized trainer, or by myself at home. I strive to maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude both on and off the field to be a good role model for other players of various ages. I am very coachable and open to any information or tips which could help me improve any aspect of my game. I am fiercely competitive in anything that I do, but also amiable and not overbearing when things do not go my way. I constantly assist my teammates to build trust and companionship in the team and I always “pick up” teammates and encourage friendly competition between myself and my peers to constantly better ourselves.
I can play in any outfield position (while preferring the corner positions) and 2nd base. I am currently part of the NOVA Premier Blue Showcase team which travels all around the East Coast going to showcases and tournaments at high levels. The program is filled with the extremely talented baseball players for myriad schools throughout the Northern Virginia area. I was awarded ‘Silver Slugger’ for the entire seasons. Past programs that I have played for include the Loudoun South Eagles and the Marucci Stars (formerly the DeMarini Stars).
I maintain a 4.1 GPA in high school while attending the magnet school program AOS (Academy of Science). My desire to be at the top of my class in both athletics and sports was what influenced my decision to attend the magnet school program. In addition to AOS, I also made the Thomas Jefferson school (#1 all American High school located in Fairfax), but decided to go to AOS to be more competitive in baseball. With the long commute and “weaker” (relatively) baseball team, I chose AOS to stay closer to home and still go to my area’s high school. In addition to baseball, I also swim and I have swum for my high school swim team. I am involved in extracurricular clubs such as the Math Honor Society, Debate club, and Speech club. I aspire to be a successful lawyer, so I intend to occupy leadership positions in related clubs such as debate and speech.
I aspire to attend a college that has an outstanding academic program in conjunction with a great baseball team. Therefore, I am aiming for top colleges such as the Ivy League colleges. However, I am open to any option that could fit my interests, and I am aware that merely limiting my college goals to just the Ivy League could result in me missing a college better suited for myself and my interests. I hope to continue to play baseball and go as far as I can go while building good moral character and creating lifelong friendships with my peers.
