Personal Statement

Hello, My name is Ron Wilkie. I'm a senior at Davenport High School. I'm 6 foot 1 inch, and I weigh 179 lbs. I have a great work ethic because of how I have been raised. I work in the summer on my uncle's ranch and I mow lawns and make some money to pay for things like baseball equipment, new personal appliances, etc. To me its all about competing at the highest level possible, I strive to find and reach my TRUE potential. Throughout my high school career I have had amazing experiences in sports and school. Everything from Baseball to FFA has brought me great memories and good times. Baseball has been unbelievably good to me and my family and friends. I played 4 years of little league. 2 years of all-stars. I have played baseball every summer since 2007. I have been a starter on the football and baseball varsity teams since my freshmen year. Basketball is not my forte by far, but I work very hard and try to be the positive vocal leader of all my teams and be the role model to the younger kids coming up. My Junior year of baseball I was named to the league All-Opponent Team as a catcher, which was a great honor considering the competition. I love working out in the weight room. I take practices just as seriously as games because I belive that, work habit carries over into game situations and if you practice hard you will play hard. More importantly than the physical side of sports is the mental side. For my senior project I organized a Baseball Fundamentals Camp for younger kids and I really emphasized on the mental side of the game. Eating right is something else I also believe in very strongly. I believe that my body is a finely tuned machine and good fuel is important. Once I get to college I will establish a major when I feel it is necessary and I feel comfortable with what I choose, but at this point in time I have no intended major. School size is not a big issue for me. One of my personal goals, being an athlete, has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, I want to be the first person from my school to receive playing time and with any luck a scholarship at the D1 level. Only 2 girls from Davenport have gone to a D1 school on scholarship and I want to be the first boy to do so. I realize that a junior college might be the best way to go, but my dad has always told me aim low but shoot high, which means keep your sights on a big school but never over look a smaller one so I am open to all sizes of schools in all areas. Financial aid is needed in my family, my parents and I have completed the FAFSA and I have established my NCAA eligibility. I hope you take the time to look over my profile and consider me as an addition to your program.
