I have loved baseball for as long as I can remember! I love it because it is a sport that on any given day the worst team can be the best team. Everyday you can win a game no matter how good or bad you are. As a freshman I set a goal for myself to be the starting varsity first baseman for my high school team that year. The winter before my freshman season I worked out and practiced baseball everyday. I live in a small town and we don't have access to batting cages or anything close by, but our neighbor down the road had an empty spud shed he wasn't using so my dad and I would practice in there. By the time the season started I felt totally ready! My coach told me that it was the Senior first basemen's spot to lose. The first game of the season was against our rivals and by the 3rd inning we were losing and the senior first baseman was struggling. Coach put me in to bat for him and I hit a double and sealed my position after that. I learned that being prepared is one of the most important parts of any goal. Had I not put in so much time and effort to be ready for my chance things may have turned out differently.
I love this sport and want to continue playing for as long as I am able! I also know that my education is equally as important and would like to be able to get a college education while playing the sport that I love so much!
