Kyler Speer '18 Recruiting Profile

As a student, I would love to not only gain a degree in the study of the most intriguing thing to me: the mind, but also, to play the sport that I would go out there and die for, for the remaining portion of my youth, student, athletic, and lastly, my "free" years. Not only do you get a great student when you pick me, but I also have something that players are scarce in; hustle and determination. Where I was raised, if you didn't do one thing, everything fell apart, such as a farm, or something simple like the grass in your yard. The whole property isn't going to look good if you have tall grass, and I look at that lifestyle a whole lot like baseball. If you have one player that isn't willing to go out there and give it all, then you don't have a team. I love the quote, "you are only as strong as your weakest link" because it traces back to my quote of needing everything to be full of determination. Not only do you get a determined student, but also a determined athlete. I have never seen a pitcher, hitter, or test keep me from walking on a field, or in a classroom and saying "I don't know if I can do this." That's what I live by. If you don't believe in  and trust in yourself, who else can you allow yourself to trust? You have to get it on your own, and be willing to get knocked down and get back up. There will be losses, there will be better teams, but never tell yourself that. Always say "I will beat the other person playing this position by every aspect." Coming to an end, I can be anything that someone wants me to be. I like to think of myself as versatile, someone who can be a Grade A student, but also be a great athlete, and in free time, be a great buddy to have a good time with!
