Personal Statement
I am Mark Kenney, and my collegiate goals are to get an amazing education, while playing the game I love--BASEBALL. I have always been a good athlete, loving many sports over the years, but baseball has become my passion. It is a way to combine my athleticism and love of sport with things like personal achievement, hard work, intelligence and patience, but it still has an important level of teamwork, and I love being part of a team.
I have been told that I have an unusual level of team spirit and coachability. I am hard-wired to look for the "assist" before being the playmaker. I play selflessly. It's not something I think about, but it's something people notice and tell me. I am a student of the game, trying to learn something from every "coach" or teammate I encounter. I am open to criticism. I try to use it constructively. I don't question things like batting order or where I'm placed in the lineup. I just love to play.
I have strong character--insisted upon by my parents, but now I choose to live it for myself. I am blessed that both athletics and academics have come easy for me so far, but I am still always willing to put in the time and effort to get better. I don't want to settle.
I am blessed by the many opportunities I have been given, and feel further blessed by the opportunity to pursue my dreams now.
