Personal Statement

Hello, I am Riley Erickson. I am currently the starting catcher for the Nekoosa Papermakers. I have started every year in Highschool so far and during the summer of my seventh grade year I started the JV legion team. My eighth grade summer I started the Varsity legion team. I have been to 3 state tournaments in legion baseball, finishing in eighth twice and sixth once. I started as a freshman on the spring Varsity team and we lost in the regional championship game. My sophomore year I received first-team all conference honors for catching ,and hit for a .354 average. However, our playoff run would end at our very first game.

My Junior season I again received 1st team all conference. I would also receive 1st team all district and HM all state. My team awards consisted of being elected team MVP and team leading hitter.

I currently have 3.26 G.P.A. and set a goal to improve it to a 3.35 by the time I graduate. I also participate very heavily in my schools choral program.

My goal is to play college baseball and receive a good education at a four-year university. I believe that I would fit in on any team because I work hard and look to improve in everything I do.

  • 2014 Nekoosa legion post #442 (Varsity)
  • In this summers legion season I started every game behind the plate. I would finish the season at the State tournament held here in Nekoosa. As a team we finished third in the tournament and I was elected to the All-Tournament team.
  • 2013 Nekoosa legion post #442 (Varsity)
  • As a team we did very well. With around half of the team underclassmen we were still able to win our regionals and attend the state tournament. At the state tournament we would lose both of our games.
  • 2013 UWSP Fall ball
  • During the fall I chose to play baseball instead of football at Stevens Point while recieving instructions and coaching from college players and coaches.
  • 2012 Nekoosa Legion post #442 (Varsity)
  • This was the summer after my freshman year in highschool. The Nekoosa team that I played for was very successful. As a team we went undefeated in our regional and went to state. While at the state tournament we lost our first two games and were elimanted on the second day of the tournament.
  • 2011 Nekoosa Legion post #442 (Varsity)
  • We made it to state as a team this year and went 1-2. I did not play in the state tournment because we had a senior catcher. The senior was our star pitcher and also caught. Whenever he would pitch I was the go-to catcher. I did, however, catch the regional championship game where I hit a RBI single to give us the lead.

Baseball: While I have made many memories and played in two state tournaments there is one memory that trumps them all. When I was in seventh grade I had the opportunity to play on that years JV legion team for the regional tournament in Merrill. We were down by two runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth of the regional semifinal. The bases were loaded and I was up to bat and I was able to hit a line drive over the second basemans head and two runs were able two score.
